August 24, 1975: In the second game of a double header, Ed Halacki No-Hits the Mets. Halacki would never have a winning season pitching for the Giants and finishes his career with a 55-66 record.

August 24, 2005: Mike Jacobs becomes the first player in Major League history to hit four home runs in the first gour games of his major league career.

July 29, 1963: Mets trade Jacke Davis to the Cardinals for Duke Carmel

Games and Events:

July 29, 2000: Two new additions to the Mets have productive first days with the team. Mike Bordick goes 2-3 including a home run on his first pitch as a Met. Rick White pitches a scoreless inning of relief later in the game.

July 29, 2004: Eric Valent becomes the eighth Met to hit for the cycle. The Mets beat the Expos 10-1. Valent is the fourth player in the majors to hit for the cycle in the 2004 season.

July 29, 2008: David Wright scores for the 13th consecutive game setting a new Mets record in a 4-1 win over the Marlins. Wright broke Carlos Beltran's record that was set in 2006.

July 28, 1993: Mets win against the Marlins 5-4. The win snaps Anthony Young's Major League record 27 losses in a row.

July 28, 2001: Robin Ventura hits a walk-off home run against Turk Wendell and the Phillies. Wendell had been traded the day before along with Dennis Cook From the Mets to the Phillies.

July 27, 1990: Mets trade Mike Marshall to the Red Sox for Greg Hansell, Paul Williams and Ed Perozo.

July 27, 2001: Mets trade Turk Wendell and Dennis Cook to the Phillies for Bruce Chen and Adam Walker

July 27, 2002: Mets sign free agent Carlos Gomez

Games and Events:

July 27, 1993: Mets pitcher Brett Saberhagen sprays bleach on reporters as they talk to pitcher Dwight Gooden.

July 27, 2008: Johan Santana throws a complete game and the Mets beat the Cardinals 9-1.  It is his first complete game since throwing one at Shea Stadium the year before with the Twins. The win completed a stretch where the Mets took 4 of 6 from the Phillies and Cardinals.

July 24, 1995: Carl Everett is called up from Norfolk to begin his major league career

July 24, 1993: The Mets lose 5-4 to the Dodgers. The loss extends pitcher Anthony Young's record losing streak to 27 in a row. Young walks in the winning run in the 10th inning. Three fans would be injured after the game when Vince Coleman lights what appears to be a fire cracker in the player's parking lot.

July 24, 1973: New York Mets outfielder Willie Mays makes his final appearance in an All Star Game. Mays strikes out on three pitches in his only at bat.

July 23, 2000: After rejecting a trade to the Mets, Reds SS Barry Larkin signs a 3 year extension to stay with the Reds.

July 23, 2001: Mets trade catcher Todd Pratt to the Phillies for Gary Bennett

Games and Events:

July 23, 1994: The Giants defeat the Mets 4-2 after what was the longest rain delay in baseball history. The delay last three hours and fourty-nine minutes.

July 22, 1963: the New York Mets release colorful outfielder Jimmy Piersall who was hitting .194. Piersall made headlines in June when he ran around the bases backward after hitting his 100th home run.

Games and Events:

July 22, 2005: Yhency Brazoban records his 18th save agaist the Mets in a 6-5 victory. The save sets the Dodgers record for most saves in a single season by a Dodger rookie. Brazoban was pitching because regular Dodger's closer Eric Gagne was injured. The save broke Steve Howe's record of 17 set in 1980.

July 22, 1962: The Mets have four players thrown out at the plate in a double header. The Mets lose both games 11-4 and 4-3.

July 21, 1965: Mets trade Jesse Conder to the Milwaukee Braves for Gary Kolb

July 21, 1976: Mets trade Del Unser and Wayne Garrett to the Montreal Expos for Pepe Manqual and Jim Dwyer

Events:

July 21, 2008: Jose Reyes collects his 11th triple of the year as the Mets beat the Reds 7-5. Reyes' triple gives him 63 for his career putting him one ahead of Mookie Wilson as the Mets all time leader in triples.

July 21, 1975: Mets' infielder Joe Torre becomes the first major leaguer to ground into four consecutive double plays in one game. Felix Milan was on base with four singles ahead of Torre to make the feat possible.

July 21, 1970: Clay Kirby is pinch hit for by Padres manager Preston Gomez in the eighth inning of a game against the Mets. Kirby had a no hitter going, but was losing 1-0 at Jack Murphy Stadium. The Padres fail to hold the Mets hitless and the Mets win 3-0.

July 20th 2000: Red Sox OF Carl Everett receives a 10-game suspension for twice bumping an umpire in a game with the Mets last week. A defiant Everett places most of the blame for the suspension on the media.

July 20th 1995: Mets' OF Brett Butler has 4 hits, but it's not enough to beat the Cardinals as the Mets lose 8-6. Butler's hits give him 15 over 4 games one shy of the record of 16 set by Brooklyn's Milt Stock in 1925.

July 20th 1990: Mets LHP Sid Fernandez strikes out 10 batters in 7 1/3 innings as the Mets beat the Braves 6-1. Fernandez strikes out 7 in a row in the game.

July 20th 1985: Darryl Strawberry knocks in 7 runs on 2 HRs as the Mets beat the Braves 16-4. Strawberry hits a grandslam followed by a 3-run homer in the game.

July 20th 1965: The Braves score 7 runs in the seventh inning to beat the Mets 7-1. Hank Aaron hits a two-run homer off of Larry Miller to cap the 7 run inning.

Events:   

July 17th 2001: Bernard Gilkey makes his Braves debut after another former Met Rico Brogna announces his retirement

July 17th 1994:The Richmond Braves defeat the Norfolk Tides‚ 3-2 in 12 innings‚ in a Class AAA International League game. The contest is marked by a brawl in the 8th inning in which both dugouts empty and 1 player is ejected. A new anti-fighting policy in the minors mandates fines and suspensions for any player who leaves his position‚ the dugout‚ or the bullpen during a fight. IL president suspends and fines 35 players for their actions.

July 17th 1992: David Cone throws 166 pitches (tied for 3rd highest in the 1990s) as the Mets edge the Giants‚ 1-0. Bill Swift is the loser. Cone walks 4 and strikes out 13 in shutting out San Francisco for the 2nd time this year. He beat them on May 24th‚ striking out 10.

July 17th 1977: At Shea Stadium‚ Lenny Randle comes to bat in the 6th against the Cubs Paul Burris‚ when New York City is hit by a power blackout at 9:34. Randle will finally ground out‚ but it won't be until the game is completed on September 16. The Cubs win‚ 5-1.
