A New Beginning

Well, it's finally here. Opening Day 2011. And I know that not many of the "experts" give the Mets much of a chance to compete this year. And our offseason has been a real soap opera.

But, I still believe.

We do have quality players in Pagan,Wright, Reyes, Bay and Davis. If Beltran and Reyes can stay healthy and have the seasons that we know they are capable of, then we have a pretty good lineup.

Our pitching doesn't equal the staff of the Phillies. But if Pelfrey and Dickey can build off of the good year they had in 2010, and if Chris Capuano and Chris Young can continue to pitch as well as they did this spring, we are not that bad.

I'm looking forward to seeing more from Brad Emaus and Lucas Duda as well as from Scott Hairston and Daniel Murphy. And can Josh Thole really step up and take charge of the pitching staff for his first full season?

On paper, we don't stack up against the Phillies and most people don't see the Mets competing in the Eastern Division at all.  I think we can compete and be there at the end, even if it's as a wild-card team. Let everyone count us out - it just gives the Mets more motivation to prove everyone wrong.

And no matter what the 2011 season brings, I will be watching every game that I can because the Mets are my team and nothing will ever change that.
