Oliver Perez became the
first Mets pitcher in their history to go less than 6 innings, walk 7 batters
and get a win. This season has been filled with off the wall statistics such as
this so I thought I would share a few more about this team..
David Wright's
Streakiness
Since June 21st, David
Wright had stretches where he went 8-14, 0-11, 4-9, 1-23, and then 2-4 last
night.
More Crazy Batting
Statistics
As we should expect with so
many position players on the disabled list there are some sad statistics. The
Mets are are dead last in the National League in strike out
and home runs along with being second to last in total at bats. However, for
a team that is averaging the least runs per game (4.34) in 5 years there are
some very positive statistics as well. The Mets are second in batting average
and on base percentage. The Mets are also first in stolen bases, but are second
in caught stealing.
Two Stats No One Expected
The Mets first base
production is last in the league. Daniel Murphy and Fernando Tatis have
combined at first base to hit .247 with 8 home runs and 45 RBIS entering last
night's game. However, a position that seemed weak this season has been the
strongest in the league. The combination of Brian Schneider, Omir Santos, and
Ramon Castro have driven in 54 runs which is the highest in the league.
